Ellora Caves

Kailasa Temple, representing the home of Shiva in the Himalayas.  Chiseled out of solid rock from the mountainside, archeologists believe the Kailasa Temple complex took 7000 workers 150 years to complete!  It's an Indiana Jones-ish sort of architecture that utterly dramatic in its beauty and architecture and boggles the mind, easily one of the most amazing things I've ever seen in India or anywhere.

The Ellora Caves were carved between 350-700 AD, a peaceful effort between the three major ancient Indian religions, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism.

This is a view of the Kailasa Temple complex.

Another view of the Kailasa Temple complex, hacked out of a mountainside between 350-700 AD.
