The impressive Jamial Masjid, a wooden mosque notable for the more than 300 soaring pillars supporting the roof; each made of a single deodar tree trunk, one allegedly having descended directly from heaven.

Winters are very cold and hard in Kashmir.  The roads close, leaving people without food and supplies, so the prudent dry lots of food to store until winter.

During the winter, it can snow heavily.  And when it does, the family must immediately shovel the snow from the rooftops before they collapse - sometimes several times per night.
