Baja California

Snorkeling with a baby whale shark in the Sea of Cortez.
The water was quite green due to the abundance of plankton -- the main reason why
the whale sharks come to this region. Still taken from video shot by Nigel Lizaranzu .

The baby whale shark here is only approximately
sixteen feet in length. As mentioned elsewhere, whale sharks can grow to be as long
as 45 feet in length. Still taken from video shot by Nigel Lizaranzu.

The skin of the whale shark feels very soft and
somewhat rubbery in texture. To touch a whale shark like this, one should establish
a rapport so the whale shark clearly feels comfortable before touching. Still taken from video shot by Nigel Lizaranzu.
