Whale sharks can grow to be as much as 45 ft. (14 meters) in
length, and are the world's largest fish. There is surprisingly little research on whale sharks. We do know that they have approximately 300 teeth, although these are not used for chewing (the whale shark is a filter feeder). It is believed that the whale sharks reach sexual maturity at 20-30 years of age, and can live to be up to 100 years of age. They prefer tropical, warm waters, and can be found in Belize, SE Asia (including the Andaman Sea), Mozanbique, and Australia. |
