26 December 2013: The trip started out poorly. My car had problems, so we rented a car. No, the car to the left is not our rental. Then, I lost my wallet. Lisa found this two and a half hours later under the seat of her truck. We left four hours later than planned. ~~ I tried to track down what kind of car this is, but could not. This was taken near Forestville very late at night. Title: People can have the Model T in any color – so long as it’s black |
27 December 2013 -Armstrong Redwoods: The next day, my friend Jill and her two kids and I went for a walk along the East Ridge in Armstrong Redwoods, a place I adore. Along the way, her son told me in detail about a movie he intends to make with his friend, a movie that remakes Star Wars, but with food. Light sabers made of bananas, that kind of thing. His little sister not only kept up with us but was running all over the place. Fun! |
On the way back from Armstrong Redwoods, I saw this amazing car parked off the side of the road. I vowed to circle back later and take some night photos of it, light painting it for good measure. |
After hanging out at Adam and Jill's house, I drove back to light paint the abandoned vehicle. ~~ Title: Dark Speed |

28 December 2013: Lisa was still sick in bed. I spent the day hanging out to get her stuff and make sure she was alright and run and get some stuff and hang out where we were staying, Bella Vigna Winery. This photo was taken while I made a run for Nyquil. Gotta love someone who presorts their mail. |
Me and a very friendly dog who lives at Bella Vigna Winery in Sebastapol. |
Unusual wildlife abounds in Sebastapol. |
Adam and I went to see an improvisational psychedelic jazz ensemble called Chardonnay at Toad In the Hole in Santa Rosa, then checked out the view of Santa Rosa at night. ~~ Title: Santa Rosa Nights |
Getting back to Bella Vigna Winery, I figured I'd do a little night sky photography. I hadn't really seen very much night sky photography if a winery, and thought it'd be fun to see what I came up with. I didn't really have a plan, I just thought it'd be fun. Here are the results! ~~ Title: Bella Vigna Nights |
I got a little more over the top with this long exposure night sky star trails photo, "painting" the ground red with light. This was good fun and good exercise, walking up and down and up and down and up and down the hillside. Title: Bella Vigna Star Trails Photography: Ken Lee Info: Nikon D7000, Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 lens, Feisol tripod. The total exposure is 47 and a half minute exposure, with each individual exposure shot at 30 seconds f/4 ISO 400. Light painted with LED flashlights and gels. Location: Sonoma County, CA |
And here's a view of the main house at Bella Vigna Winery, with the winter Milky Way in the background. ~~ Title: Bella Vigna Milky Way |
29 December 2013 - Bella Vigna/Bears-Packers/Peter Lowell's Restaurant: Another gorgeous day. The deck of the guesthouse where we were staying on Bella Vigna winery was perfect for hanging out or doing yoga, as this cat thought. |
The Bears and the Packers faced off. Last game of the season, the winner going to the playoffs, the loser going fishing. Aaron Rodgers came back, and although a close game, Cutler, Hester, Marshall, Jefferey, Briggs, Wright, and the rest of the crew came up a bit short. I was at Adam and Jill's house, a house full of people from Wisconsin. Should I have gone to a house full of Chicagoans? But we did have fun and ate delicious cabbage and sausage soup. Afterwards, we checked out this house in Santa Rosa, who do it up every Christmas and open their yard to visitors. |
