28 December 2016, continued: Morro Rock, CA.

The Cubs won the World Series for the first time in 108 years, and sure, that was last month, but it's still time to celebrate. |

Another walk around the Elfin Forest, just a few steps north of where we were staying in Los Osos. |
Later that evening, we went to Kuma Sushi in Los Osos, which was delicious. It wasn't exactly traditional, but it didn't matter. The broth in the ramen was delicious. This is a spicy miso ramen with chicken, while the farther one is a tankatsu with pork. |
29 December 2016: We went to the Kayak Shack and rented a tandem kayak and paddled around the wetlands in Morro Bay, checking out our fine feathered friends and seals before heading in the opposite direction to check out the sand dunes, which you can see in the distance here. The sand dunes serve as a break for the bay, so the water where we were paddling, although ocean water, was very calm. |

After a while, we began paddling toward the sand dunes that are a break between the bay and the Pacific Ocean. |

30 December 2016: We drove about 45 minutes north, following Highway 1 up to San Simeon, where Hearst Castle is located. Hearst Castle was owned by William Randolph Hearst. And it's not really a castle, it served mostly as one his summer home, and was small compared to some of his other properties, which included an actual real castle and other enormous properties. Nonetheless, Hearst Castle is amazing, with tons of art that the Hearst eventually donated to the state of California, where now it is a State Park. What you are looking at here is an entrance to one of the cottages, where guests stayed when they visited the Hearsts. |

We didn't make online reservations, and arriving a little after 11:15 am, found that we had to wait over two hours to take the Grand Rooms Tour, which is probably the main one that everyone takes. We took the Cottages and Kitchens tour, which is what you just saw, and at 1:45, began taking the Grand Rooms Tour. The Hearsts had a silly amount of art that was imported from Italy, France, and Spain. And since we were there just after Christmas, the holiday decorations were still up, a good time to see Hearst Castle. |

Another kind of pool. Hearst Castle. After the two tours, we got some beef jerky that they raise on the enormous premises, and then began driving back, eating at SLO Barbeque in San Luis Obispo on the way back down Highway 101 back home. It had been raining the whole day, and it continued on through the night. |
