Morro Bay, Los Osos, Hearst Castle, California

![]() 26 December 2016: We went on a four-day trip to the Morro Bay area, staying in Los Osos. We paddled around Morro Bay, walked on sand dunes, stood near the "Lost City of DeMille" where he filmed "The Ten Commandments" in 1923 and buried the set, explored the coastline at Montaña de Oro, checked out Hearst Castle, and ate tons of great food. I'll upload a little at a time in the coming week or so. We stayed in the little town of Los Osos. We had an AirBnB walking distance from the Elfin Forest, and only a few miles north of Montaña de Oro State Park. We ate at a number of good restaurants, including the Baywood Ale House and Kuma Sushi as well as elsewhere. All photos, including the panorama photos, taken with an iPhone. Our pilgrimmage to the Land of Hap-Pea and Pea-Wee and their pea soup. Look, I know that you can get better pea soup elsewhere, but it's become such a thing over the years. Anyway, we stopped here on the way to Morro Bay, near San Luis Obispo, where we stayed in the little town of Los Osos. We had an AirBnB walking distance from the Elfin Forest, and only a few miles north of Montaña de Oro State Park. iPhone photo. And most of these photos are iPhone photos. |

![]() "In 1923, pioneer filmmaker Cecil. B. DeMille built the largest set in movie history in the dunes near Guadalupe, CA, for his silent (and early Technicolor) epic, The Ten Commandments. It was called “The City of the Pharaoh.” After filming was complete, DeMille ordered that the entire set be dismantled… and secretly buried in the dunes. And there it lay, forgotten, for the next 60 years and it still sits there, buried in the sand, known as the “Lost City of Cecil B. DeMille.”" 360 panorama iPhone photo. |

After waking, we drove to Montaña De Oro State Park, CA, just a few miles south of where we were staying in Los Osos. There are a lot of things to do around the Morro Bay area, with quite a number of places to walk or hang out or eat even though it's a small area. |
