A beautiful warm day in late October. Lisa and I went to the most beautiful beach in Los Angeles.

These are long exposure photos. This one is a ten-second long exposure. The challenge to me is to try and keep the tripod still when the ocean water is ebbing and flowing, pulling on the tripod, pulling the soft wet sand away from the tripod and wrapping seaweed around the tripod legs! I always jam the tripod in as hard as possible, and this certainly helps, although of course not always!

And the other challenge is to try and keep the water from splashing on the lens or the camera. I destroyed my Nikon D90 at Bowling Ball Beach by having water splash on it, frying the circuit board.

While having some technical issues due to shifting sand, this is a charming photo that I still would like to share.

These photos were all taken at El Matador Beach in Malibu, Los Angeles. During the first set of photos of The Secret Coast, taken about two months earlier, many people expressed great surprise when they found these sea stacks and rock formations exist this far south in California.

These are photos from The Secret Coast I.

Here's a bonus photo, essentially the same as above, but with a shorter exposure time of 3 seconds instead of 10.

Where the previous photo, due to its longer ten-second exposure, results in a milkier, silkier look, this photo shows more of the water's motion.
