Highland Park Christmas Parade, 6 December 2009

Christmas time.  Time for the parade in Highland Park with The Highland Park Thursday Evening Gentlemen's Society Circuit Bending Marching Band And Ladies Auxiliary.  I joined founder Jeff Boynton, his wife Mona, and the other members at his home.  Their home was brimming with extensive collection of circuit-bent toys and keyboards and Roland MicroCube amps and purple and gold outfits for the parade.  We prepared just as we did for the Doo-Dah Parade earlier this year.  We'd march with circuit bent toys. We'd bring tears of joy to the masses. We'd introduce legions of young kids to the joys of circuit-bent toys.  Yes, our mission was set.

From the website:  "The Highland Park Thursday Evening Gentlemen's Society Circuit Bending Marching Band And Ladies Auxiliary is a collection of eccentric lunatics I call my friends, and my wife Mona. I include myself in this description as well. We have battery powered amps (Roland Micro Cubes this year) into which we plug circuit bent instruments for the purpose of marching in any parade that will let us. Most of us are not benders, but those of us who are provide enough bent devices to go around."  Cacophonous goodness, mm-hmm.

Estrella Restaurant on Figueroa. Was starving.  Shoulda gotten a taco.

Ended up getting an LA street dog, our homegrown mayo-slathered, chile-sluiced, grilled onion–smothered bacon-wrapped hell yeah cooked on an I-made-this-out-of-parts-in-the-back-of-the-house grill.  West Virginia's got their slaw dogs, we've got our LA street dog, and that's a beautiful thing.

The Highland Park Thursday Evening Gentlemen's Society Circuit Bending Marching Band And Ladies Auxiliary gets happy.  Figueroa, Highland Park Christmas Parade.

In this time of economic turmoil, the beautiful strains of circuit-bent instruments brings joy to the masses.

Couldn't find any bathrooms.

Circuit-bent mayhem, yeah.

Although Jeff had more than enough circuit-bent toys to go around, I decided to bring my Professor Television photo-theremin, something I picked up on eBay for $60 a a couple of years ago.  The day was bright, and I ended up keeping the theremin in my camera bag much of the time to control the pitch.
