 This is a preak sneview.
I was admittedly a bit self-conscious of starting off this set of photos with a bunch of weird abandoned buildings, so I thought I'd start with a beautiful long-exposure of the desert at midnight.
I'll show this photo again and explain a little about it on the next page. |
Lisa and I began the trip by heading up to historic Route 66. We were going to visit the ghost town of Ludlow and head on over to Amboy, then circle around back to Pioneertown, near Joshua Tree.

Ludlow is a tiny town in the Mojave Desert and started off as a water stop, had a small boom when ore was discovered in the nearby hills, served thirsty motorists along Route 66, and was eventually done in when the new Interstate 40 was built, bypassing the town. |
Today, mostly tourists visit Route 66 and the ghost town of Ludlow. |

We eventually drove down National Trails Highway, part of Route 66, and made it to Pioneertown, where we were staying for the evening. We went to Pappy and Harriet's that evening to hang out and listen to the band Whispering Pines, who sounded quite good even despite having one of their band members stay back in the hotel, having caught a fever. |
