Later, we met up with our friend Laura for dinner. After that, Laura and I went into the Joshua Tree National Park in the evening to take some night sky and Milky Way shots. Although we could see a little of the Milky Way banding across the sky while the moon was out, after it set a little after 10 pm, the Milky Way became much more vibrant and visible. This photo was taken with the camera facing more or less south, showing some of the gaseous clouds that are more visible during the summer months. The evening was quite warm, but I luckily still didn't get too much noise in the image even while shooting at 4000 ISO. Nonetheless, I did clean up the sky a bit using Nik DFine in Photoshop CS4. |

Lisa and I ventured out to Joshua Tree National Park, treating ourselves to a stay at the very comfortable 29 Palms Inn so we could float about the swimming pool and drink their Desert Sunset drinks by the pool.

The trip involved much relaxation by the pool, an effort to get away. But it caught up to us. We got a call from our friend John, who was pet-sitting Willie. Willie was not doing well. He had cancer of the tongue, and was detoriorating in healtth already. The next morning, we rushed back. Willie could not walk and was struggling. We made the very sad decision to put him to sleep. I shall always be grateful to have had an opportunity to have a cat as great as Willie, and as well, his brother Waylon. May they be up in the stars, frolicking together, and may we somehow see them again.
