NEEWER DT-ENEL15 Camera Battery Charger and Two Batteries — Ergonomics and build quality
Ergonomics
The charger is slim enough to fit in just about any sort of carrying case, backpack, purse, or luggage. The charger’s indicator lights are easy to read, and correspond to each of the two battery bays. Everything is simple and clean.
Build quality
The Nikon EN-EL15 series batteries have varying mAh capacities. The original EN-EL15 and EN-EL15a were rated at 1900 mAh, the EN-EL15b at 1900 mAh, and the latest EN-EL15c at 2280 mAh. These two third-party NEEWER batteries are rated at 2100 mAh, almost the same as the latest Nikon batteries.
NEEWER DT-ENEL15 Camera Battery Charger and Two Batteries — What they do
The battery charger can charge two batteries simultaneously. I think it’s immediately obvious why this is an enormous time-saver, especially when traveling or shooting in the field, since it lets you keep at least one battery ready to go. This can be especially useful if you also bring along a battery pack or solar charger. If you wish, you can also charge your batteries from a laptop or, of course, a charging plug or USB socket.
NEEWER DT-ENEL15 Camera Battery Charger and Two Batteries — In the field
We took the charger and two batteries on a night photography workshop and photography trip. The charger did its job, charging everything in a reasonable amount of time. Its slim design fit easily into my pack.
Doing long exposures during night photography shoots can drain batteries quickly. In cool October weather (around 55–60°F), the two NEEWER batteries held their charge for entire evenings of night photography.
NEEWER DT-ENEL15 Camera Battery Charger and Two Batteries — Good value
We purchase third-party batteries because they’re often a fraction of the price of an OEM battery.
And we purchase third-party battery chargers not only because they are often less expensive than their OEM counterparts, but also because they are often made in more space-efficient designs.
With cheaper or less well-made third-party batteries, there are sometimes risks around longevity, consistency, or safety. This includes overheating or swelling. Thankfully, reputable brands tend to mitigate these issues more than random no-name batteries.
NEEWER seems to be one of these companies. They have been around for quite some time and have proven themselves to be a reputable company. NEEWER strikes a solid balance: offering OEM-comparable specs, a portable USB-based charger, and decent value, which often outweighs potential drawbacks.
