I've divided this in to two parts, just for fun, the Night Page (this one), and the Day Page (the other one! :D ).

This is Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe at night. I took some night photos with my camera and tripod, taking long exposure photos at night. It was near a full moon, so much of the land is illuminated by the moon, almost looking like a daylight shot. You can see the streak on Emerald Bay, caused by the movement of a small boat returning to the dock. If you look hard, you can see some star trails. They are not very prominent because this was taken during the "blue hour", long after the sun had set, but before the sky was completely dark.

This is a long exposure night photo. I use a tripod to keep the camera still, and then leave the shutter open for a long period of time. All the illumination and colored lights are done while the camera shutter is open. I illuminate the structure as well as the interior. This sort of long exposure photography is almost like a performance, and is extremely fun, and rather addicting to do. The streaks in the sky are the stars appearing to move. This is due to the rotation of the earth while the camera shutter is open.

Near the shores of Lake Tahoe, a Native American teepee, which I illuminated with an eerie blue light, created by illuminating the interior with a flashlight set to a blue light. Emerald Bay at night in this long exposure photo.

One of the evenings we were at Lake Tahoe, I decided to drive over to the trailhead at Emerald Bay and walk down the trail, which I believe is about a mile, to attempt to take photos of the bay and Vikingsholm at night. I didn't know whether this was possible, but better to try than not.

Vikingsholm, a 38-room mansion on the shore of Emerald Bay at Lake Tahoe influenced by Scandinavian architecture. All illumination and colored lights were done with a handheld flashlight during the exposure, and is not a post-processing creation.

After visiting Tahoe, we drove south down Hwy. 395 to June Lake, a place we had never visited before. It is absolutely gorgeous. I took some photos of the lakes at night.
