A Carnosaurus and Allosaurus locked in a combat that shakes the stars above. These sculptures, among my favorite in Borrego Springs, are created by Ricardo Breceda. This photo is blended from two photos. The Milky Way is visible, as the camera is facing south.

The clouds hung in the sky for quite some time, breaking up the star trails, but it was a lot of fun to create this star trails nonetheless. I set up the shot for this camera, letting it shoot for fifty minutes continuously while I helped participants taking my Star Trails and Light Painting Workshop over the July 4th holiday weekend. We had some very slow moving clouds this evening, and I thought the elephant would look really great backlit by some of the clouds.

A Carnosaurus and Allosaurus face as the desert moon illuminates the conflict. Well, the moon and a trusty LED flashlight. These sculptures are created by Ricardo Breceda, and are among my favorite that he's created. This evening, we had a 65% moon that set well after midnight.

I taught a really really fun 2-day Star Trails and Light Painting Workshop over the weekend. The participants were wonderful. One of them, Marcie, wrote a lovely thank you for the workshop, which I greatly appreciate!!!  The sculptures are created by artist Ricardo Breceda. The moon is a 65% moon that set well after midnight on this evening.

While hanging out and helping the students in my photography workshop, I left the camera clicking, letting it go for fifty minutes. This is facing more or less east, I believe, and through this very long exposure photo, shows the movement of the stars, including the division of the stars that circle the North Celestial Pole, which are more on the upper right, and the South Celestial Pole, which are more to the lower left. But included in this is a moon trail, showing its perceived movement through the heavens as well. The streak of light on the back of the dinosaur to the left is lens flare as it moved in the lens during the 50 minute exposure, which I considered cloning out but did not, mostly because I'm really awful at cloning things out.

The stars tremble from the primordial bellow. This photo was taken during a Star Trails and Light Painting Workshop that I taught in Borrego Springs, and taught for a while about photographing the Milky Way as well. The dinosaur sculpture is created by Ricardo Breceda, one of about 129 sculptures in Galleta Meadows in Borrego Springs, and have become somewhat of a tourist attraction. And indeed, it's the primary draw for me when going to Borrego Springs, although Anza-Borrego State Park is pretty great as well. This is facing more or less south toward the Milky Way.

This is a long single exposure photo of 380 minutes showing the celestial movements of the stars above two dinosaurs locked in combat. The dinosaur sculptures are created by Ricardo Breceda. You can see the Milk Way, blurred by the 380 second exposure, along with the trailing of the stars.
